We Were in Trouble!
One time we took Julie with us to play with Carrol and Marie. Julie was probably about four years old. At this time they had an indoor bathroom. It would have been the early 60’s. I still remember how mad Martha, Carrol and Marie’s mom was at Linda and me. We had let Julie go in the bathroom by herself and she had locked the door and couldn’t get the door unlocked. Martha said we should not have let her go in the bathroom by herself. We tried to talk Julie through how to unlock the hook out of the screw eye lock. Martha was angry because Dean, her husband would have to take the screen off of the window and pry the window open. It sounded like it had happened before. We had no idea Julie would lock the door and not be able to unlock it. It never happened at home. The funny thing is I don’t remember how Julie finally got out of the bathroom. I asked Linda and she remembered the time and thought Dean took the bathroom door off it’s hinges and rescued Julie. I didn’t think Julie was old enough she would remember, but I asked her anyway. She didn’t remember it at all. I think I remember the hook and eye hook was tight and hard to unlock. But we learned a lesson when it came to locks on bathroom doors and little sisters.
