It seems like every January, I make the same goals:
- Find my dad’s MAP notebook and publish his book on Waterloo History!
- Drink more water,
- spend less money,
- save more money to pay off debt,
- GET MY BLOG GOING! Launch it!
- Get more exercise,
GOALS
How am I doing on the Goals I made in January?
One of my goals has been to start a blog. I was able to get all set up with WordPress and Blue Host. I picked a theme. I started adding the recommended plugins only to find out my 2015 MacBook Air had storage issues. I would need a new computer. I started researching what would be the best for me to buy. Apple gave me all the information I needed. They even told me they had a no interest payment plan. We talked about it and decided to buy the 15 inch MacBook Air. Our goal was to pay it off as quickly as possible. We paid as much as we could to the payments .We ordered it and it arrived in March 2024. We had it paid for before we knew it. Our next goal was to pay off Bill’s dentist appointment when he broke a tooth and had to have a $1200 crown. We started paying that off but then Bill put some muskmelon seeds down the garbage disposal. We had a plugged up kitchen drain! A plumber was called and there went $180 of our budget. The next unplanned expense came about after Bentley our 14 year old Shih Tzu spent from four AM to 5 AM dry gagging. I felt so sorry for him. Bill called an emergency vet and took Bentley in. Bentley has had a heart murmur since he was a little puppy. We had him to another vet and they said they could do a work up for aged dogs but it was costly and it probably wouldn’t help him. We called an Emergency Vet Clinic in Omaha and met Dr. K. The Veterinarian Assistant recommended Dr K to us. She told us Dr.K is her own dogs vet and that we would like her. She was right we were impressed with her knowledge and how she treated Bentley. She prescribed some heart pills.
Bill had to cut the tiny pills for the correct dose and then he wadded the pill up in a piece of bread. Bentley comes a trotting into the kitchen when he knows Bill is preparing “his treat”. We saw an improvement in Bentley in a matter of days! We had one mishap one night when Riley was being her “Piggy” little self and she switched places with Bentley and she accidentally received the bread with the pill in it and Bentley received the bread alone. Bill made a quick call to Poison Control. They said it shouldn’t hurt Riley. They did call back later after they confirmed with a vet that for her weight and size she would be okay even though Bentley weighs more than Riley. Bentley is 20 pounds and Riley only 12 pounds. It was a scary experience and Bill double checks to be sure Bentley is getting his Pill and that Riley doesn’t get it! The dogs are identical in color and their markings except Bentley is a bigger dog.
It was another expense added to the budget. Our dogs are our family and we were glad they were okay. Dr K is our vet now. This wasn’t the end of our emergency vet calls or expenses. I couldn’t help but think of the old saying, “When it rains it pours!”
