Visit Near Omaha

Safari Park was our first outing in a long time. My husband has bad knees and we had been to Safari Park years ago when we camped at Mahoney State Recreation Area, which is nearby. One thing we liked when we were camped out was we had our dog Bentley along. He loved going camping with us and Safari Park allows dogs to ride through the park.

They even have a special area for them to get out and stretch their legs. It’s a great place for families to visit. They have a farm animal exhibit where kids can have hands on the animals. they had all kinds of animals. Some were difficult it to spot. The deer concealed itself well in the woods. We stayed in our van until we reached the Bald Eagle area. Here we parked and I had my Rollator which I pushed up the hill. We saw someone pushing a person in a wheelchair up the hill.

When we reach the aviary, we lined up with the others along a fence that had tall poles with a large canopy that fenced in the eagles on all sides. People were very friendly and were pointing out the eagles amongst the trees. Someone told us we had just missed one of the Safari staff turn loose live mice for the eagles to catch their dinner.

According to the observer it was quite a sight. Somewhere on a sign I read the most of the eagles in the aviary had been injured and were recuperating and given the help they needed. Later they would be able to return to the wild. We made a mental note to next time bring our binoculars so we could see the eagles better. There were a lot of camera buffs taking pictures. One guy had a nice camera with a telephoto lens. We had our Iphones and took a lot of photos until my battery went dead.

Refreshments

We were so glad our daughter had come prepared. She brought bottled water for us and bags of Trail Mix. When we saw a pop machine at one of our rest rooms and pop was $4.50! We were so glad our girl was thinking ahead. We always carry a plastic freezer container to pour water on the dogs. Riley always asked for water by scratching at the plastic bottle. She also wants the empty bottle to play wit when it’s empty.

We throw away the lid and the plastic ring the lid was attached to. Daughter saved the day and introduced me to Menards delicious Trail Mix. There was a concession store and a little boy was unhappy the suckers were too expensive for his mom to buy. We had a fun day and would go again. It’s also has hiking trails for the young adventurism wildlife enthusiast. The Safari Park is on line if you want to know their hours of operation and the park admittance fee. Enjoy your Safari!
